L´ombra di Pio IX torna ad affacciarsi in Santa Romana Chiesa. L´improvvisa esaltazione di papa Mastai, indicato da Benedetto XVI come grande pontefice di esemplari virtù, «indomito e coraggioso» combattente contro la secolarizzazione dell´Ottocento, non è l´auspicio migliore per un rasserenarsi delle tensioni tra la società laica e il papato.

Caro Giuliano Ferrara, hai trovato su Google «testicoli piccoli e mammelle grosse» che dici di avere anche tu, come i malati di Klinefelter. Non sono un testicolologo né un medico specialista e dunque non contrappongo la mia ignoranza dinamica, attiva, a questa tua lettura allegra della sindrome di Klinefelter, da te ridotta - come mi scrivi, sul Foglio, in una lettera articolo - a una svirilizzazione. Pure a me capita di cercare i miei umori su Google e anche a me di sentirmi, in certe mattine, un aborto mancato, inadatto alla vita extrauterina: uno sfrattato. (more…)

NEWSWEEK: Italy is in deep trouble. Or is it? With the fall of the Prodi government, Italian politics has reverted to its usual postwar mess. In economic terms, the land of la dolce vita seems to have turned into the “sick man of Europe,” falling behind in GDP growth, while the French economy is holding steady and the German export machine is powering ahead. A few smart money managers around the world are betting a collapse in exports caused by excessive wage costs will force Italy to leave the straitjacket of the euro currency within three years and reintroduce its old devaluation-prone lira instead. But this bet against Italy looks set to go wrong.
