This decision was taken by the committee of Oppeano (Verona, Italy), where in May a building used by Muslims for prayer was bulldozed. In its place, the Municipality will create a public square named after the writer of The Rage and the Pride, which promoted a bitter campaign against Islam. 

The decision to raze the structure was taken by the municipal administration, which acquired the area for 70,000 Euros in order to transform it into an open area for parking and green space. 

My citizens did not want this takeover, explained the mayor, Alessandro Montagnoli, deputy of the Lega Nord, above all because it could create problems of practicability and cohabitation with the residents.

Around 80,000 gipsy children are to be fingerprinted by the Italian authorities under a new scheme that has drawn comparisons to the policies of Benito Mussolini.

The Italian government has blamed immigrants, and particularly Roma gipsies, for the country’s crime problems.

Since Silvio Berlusconi became prime minister in April, gypsy camps in the south and north of the country have been burned by vigilante mobs.

The home minister, Roberto Maroni, has now announced that all the Roma will be fingerprinted, including children. “This is not ethnic cataloguing, this is the ultimate safeguard of their rights,” he said.

Article continuesadvertisement “We will take the children’s fingerprints in order to stop those occasions when parents send their children out to beg. It is a proper census to make sure that those who have the right to stay here can live in decent conditions,” he said.

According to the latest figures, there are 160,000 Roma gipsies in Italy, almost half of whom have Italian citizenship. The last census recorded that 80,000 of them are children.

The move has triggered memories of the segregation of Jews imposed by Benito Mussolini in 1938. “I remember when I could not go to school with the others,” said Amos Luzzatto, a former president of Italy’s Union of Jewish Communities.

“There is a latent racism in Italian culture and it manifests itself cyclically,” he added. “Taking the fingerprints of youngsters from one ethnic group implies that you consider them to be congenital thieves.”

Unicef, the United Nation’s children’s rights body, said it was “shocked and deeply worried” by the plans.

Qual è il criterio che arma il giudizio di Gianfranco Fini, secondo il quale l’assassinio naziskin di Nicola Tommasoli a Verona e la contestazione della Fiera del libro da parte dei centri sociali di Torino «non sono paragonabili», e tuttavia la seconda è più grave del primo? Relativismo etico, cinismo morale, strumentalità politica, giustificazionismo fazioso? O più semplicemente il ricorso all’antica favola degli opposti estremismi, da sempre utile nella storia della Repubblica per assolvere quello di destra e condannare quello di sinistra? 
A soli cinque giorni dal suo discorso solenne e furbo d’insediamento alla presidenza della camera, nel quale si era incoronato da solo paladino e arbitro del Vero e del Giusto contro il nuovo «male del secolo» che sarebbe il relativismo culturale, Fini getta clamorosamente la maschera politica e quella (si fa per dire) intellettuale. I due fatti, di Verona e di Torino, «non sono paragonabili», però lui li paragona eccome. Per giudicarli non secondo un criterio di verità, o più umilmente di umanità come il caso vorrebbe (c’è qualcosa di meno umano che ammazzare di botte qualcuno per una sigaretta?), bensì secondo il più relativo nonché disumano dei criteri.

  Sono passate ormai piu’ di 24 ore dai risultati elettorali, quindi potrebbe essere utile iniziare a trarre delle conclusioni sulla catastrofe elettorale della Sinistra.

1) Il risultato porta alla luce una realtà nascosta da troppo tempo, la debolezza di Rifondazione (e degli altri partiti di Sx) sul piano organizzativo, debolezza evidentissima ma da nessuno mai affrontata, anzi voluta dal vertice.

Quel che è avvenuto a Bolzaneto nel 2001 è la violazione simultanea e flagrante di tre importanti trattati internazionali che l´Italia aveva contribuito ad elaborare e si era solennemente impegnata a rispettare: la Convenzione europea dei diritti dell´uomo del 1950, il Patto dell´Onu sui diritti civili e politici del 1966, e la Convenzione dell´Onu contro la tortura del 1984. A Bolzaneto sono stati inflitti trattamenti disumani e degradanti ma, in più casi, anche vere e proprie torture.
